Hey, I'm having a problem with my hard drive. I get the Boot Disk Failure error...I checked in my bios and saw that it was no longer detecting my hard drive. I felt the HD when I started up and didn't feel anything so it seems like it's not getting any power. I took the drive to a computer place to see if they could check and see if it's really dead and they said that everything booted up fine on it.
So, it works on one computer, not on mine so it might not be the hard drive. I tried unplugging the DVD burner and floppy drive to ensure enough power was getting to the HD...even used the power cord from the functioning DVD burner. I have an AMD 3000+, windows XP, 200gb Western Digital HD, 350w power supply. I've flashed my bios, and tried booting from the Windows XP disk (it just kicks me to dos with c: and I can't seem to do anything from there). Anybody have suggestions on what else I can try? Could my motherboard be screwed up? All this happened when I took out my RAM so I could check what kind I had. I had unplugged the surge protector from the wall...when I plugged it back in, the lights slightly flickered. When my computer came back on, I didn't get any output to the screen and my motherboard was beeping. I removed the RAM, blew out the dust, and reseated the RAM. The bios loaded up and that's when I got the 'Boot Disk Failure, insert CD...' error. Thanks for any help and suggestions! |

Two ways to fix this that I can see:
1. Tear down the PC and rebuild it from the ground up testing it with each new componet. 2. Take it to a trusted local computer repair shop to be serviced.

Lawson all's you ever say is take it to a local repair shop..
An honest opinion, using forums ilke this is a much more effective method of communication. While its not imperson it is very helpful and you don't pay a bench fee
