I am debating between 2 video cards, the nVidia 6800GT or the ATI X800PRO.
The 6800GT has a core speed of 350Mhz, while the ati has 475Mhz. The 6800GT has a memory speed of 1000Mhz, while the ati has 900Mhz. Both are 256 Bit, GDDR3 memory, AGP 8x 6800GT has 16 pixel pipelines, it doesnt say what the ati has. the ati has OpenGL 2.0, while the 6800gt has 1.5 The 6800GT is $294, and the X800PRO is $289 So what would you think woudl be better? I cant do SLI because i dont have PCIE, i will be using this mainly for gaming, but also for doing the basics, and a little photo/video editing. Any comments would be apprediated.

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but I have a Radeon X800 Pro. I have the sapphire brand of the card but I have not noticed anything bad about it. I play games like WoW and all Half Life 2 games(Cs:S, HL2-DM) with full settings and I receive 60-85 most of the time in WoW and 30-50 in ironforge by auction house
. In Half life 2 games, depending on the map and the number of people playing I get anywhere from 80-200. Anyways, I never got a try at the 6800 GT, but I really like my X800 Pro. I have not had one problem with it whatsoever. If I were you I would google both cards and see if their a comparison of them. Hope I helped and good luck with your purchase.

Here's what you should look at before picking one http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=2044 there is probably a review on Toms Hardware as well.

the x800 and x800 pro both have 12 pixel pipelines, the x800 xl and xt have 16, they are the same chipset so in theory the extra 4 pipelines could be unlocked, but ive yet to hear of it being done.
you should google for comparisions between the 6800gt and x800pro or x800 xl or something like that, i read several comparisions between those cards, some things one does better, some things the other, i do remember that the 6800 gt has version 3.0 of some fancy video thing(like my terminology?) and the ati has version 2.0 which supposedly can do all the things that 3.0 can only slower...but i cant for the life of me remember what it was called, i remembered them saying that you could definetely tell a difference in the new splinter cell game though, i think it was some sort of lighting thing maybe? |

The x800 pro -> x800 xt mod is done by nearly everyone, it happened with the 9800pro -> xt as well. The 6800 has pixel shader 3.0, while ATi's cards have PS2.0

IIRC PS1.1 is the most common right now, a some games can use 2.0(b) and very few can fully use 3.0.

apparently you can only mod certain x800 pro cards to xt-pe speeds, and you may or may not be able to get all 16 pipes...i found an article herehttp://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...ng/vidcard/100
so the x800 pro can possibly be modded to an x800 xt-pe, which i believe would beat out a 6800gt in most cases, but then the 6800gt can also be oced to 6800ultra speeds, and then i think it would be another ballgame. usually what it boils down to for most people is budget, in which case the x800 pro would be your best bet. and after further research, i believe it is quite likely that you can mod a regular x800 up to an x800 xl, but dont quote me on that, so there is yet another option.
