Default ResHack doesn't work

I have been told to download ResHack to edit source code. But for some reason it won't run. Yes, I know I have a 64 bit, I also tried it on my laptop which a 32bit OS. But nothing. The reason why I want the program is to change the settings in Minesweeper. lol Also to learn more about source codes.

Is there any other program out there like this? I've tried Restorator 2007 but it's a trail otherwise you have to pay. Any ideas?
