Default Recommendation on HSF

Today while playing video games my computer decided to overheat. I open up my computer and on my stock athlon 64 fx-55 HSF between the fan and HS there is a layor of dust completly blocking the airflow. I cleaned it best I could which was difficult because I dont believe the fan can come off which made getting benieth it very hard.

Since I was not able to clean it completly when playing games it still get to 65C.

I am now looking for a replacement HSF for the stock one. I want it to

A) cool better then the one I have now (duh)
b) I want easy access between the fan and heatsink for if I ever get dust between it I will have a easy time cleaning it.

cost not that important I just want my computer to stay cool but just to make sure no one goes crazy the budget will be set to under $100 for the heatsink and fan.

I have a skt 939 athlon 64 fx-55 and a ASUS A8V DELUXE Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro motherboard so the HSF must be compatiable with that.

So what do you guys recommend me getting?

I cant recommend and any heat sinks for you, but like you said about cleaning out the dust. Are you saying its between the cpu and heatsink, if so, you can remove the big fan (heatsink) and get under it to clean it out. There are usualy little spring like hatches on the side that can be lossened to remove the heat sink.

That looks like a decent option I just has one concern with it. It looks like it might be difficult to get benieth the fan to the top of the heatsink from the pic to clean it. What if I have dust problems again blocking the fan from cooling the heatsink?

Yeah, I have the ThermalTake Venus 12, and it's an awesome HSF. Very easy to take 4 screws out and separate the heatsink with the fan. It's got plenty of power, and the copper heatsink does a great job of keeping the proc. cool. I got it for $38 or something around that.

hmm well if that the case then that takes care of my concern regarding cleaning it. I been reading up on it and I leaning toward getting the venus 12 that every one seem to like on this thread.

Ive got the Venus12 and its a decent cooler, Tt could have done a better job polishing the base though (but thats ok it you decide to lap it down, ~3ēC drop). If you really want a beast of a heatsink consider the X90c (id also reccomend considering the XP120 but i dont think that fits on our board
