Default External HD

I'm always in my PC and on a few occassions ive caused my HD to stop booting :|

So i've decided to buy an external HD, so i can save all my stuff on.

It needs to:
-Either be USB or Firewire.
-Sync with my PC as soon as something new is saved onto my internal HD, like an ipod does when you plug it in
-Be compatable with Vista/XP/Linux.
-If possible used on two PC's, e.g. if its 320GB, it should split that into 2 160GB sections, so i can store data from two different PC's on there.
-for as cheap as possible.
Be better if its quiet and quick too

-Sach
