Default HP DVD Burner Error

Ok on my new computer I just put my External DVD Burner on it. IT is plugged in with USB obviously. Anyway everytime I go to My Computer> DVD Burner Drive and double click on it where you can do burn a disc and all that. This is what I get when I try to....

"There is no disc in the drive"

But there is. There is a blank CD-R. I have tryed putting different blank ones in and it says the same thing!

Please Help... Thanks

Default Hmmm

Have you tried burning? I know this may sound weird but I had a problem with my old drive. It would show me that there is no disk in the drive but burn fine. Just try that.

Yeah but i am trying to put video files in that DVD Drive folder or whatever it is and I dont know if there is any other program that can burn like documents and videos to a CD-R.

Thanks for the help though. I will try burning a regular CD on Windows Media Player.

Default Try this :)

This is a free burning software that should not be that hard to use. Windows XP by itself does a very lousy job of burning in some cases.

can you clear a few things up?

So you put a blank cd or dvd in your HP burner. you go into my computer and click on the drive and it says "There is no disc in the drive". Right?

If it's a blank ... it should show no disc, cause there is nothing on it. It's a blank. Try to right click on the drive and go to properties. It should read Type: CD Drive File system: RAW for a blank cd.

XP has Imapi ... a POS burning program. Kind of like Roxio's Drag to Disc. All it's really for is to burn data files. You can transfer your video files to the cd, but it will not play in any player ... it will be mearly a data cd.

Try Nero or CopyToDVD, both have trial versions.

And even that is questionable
