Default My broadband is really slow, plz help

So my dad got broadband this time last year, our download limit is 12k and our internet provider is Iprimus (www.iprimus.com.au). I live in Australia (if thats makes any difference) When ever my dad is downloading just ONE thing off a torrent, it slows me down a REAL REAL lot. It sometimes takes me a few minuets just to load a page...and online gaming is completly impossible. I used this site http://performance.toast.net, and got a rating of 142k while my dad is downloading 1 thing of a torrent site.

It's always been like this, really slow. I don't think its worth 50 AUS dollars a month. Sucks to be me i guess, any suggestions on how i can fix this annoying problem?

What does the company say that your connection speed is? I used to have 256kbps DSL and when someone else was downloading their mail, looking on the internet, ect, i couldnt play cs, so i know what it feels like. I dont think that 12kbps download is worth $50, of course, i live in the US, so i dont know how much that is in US dollars, but i know dial up here you can get for free or just $10 a month, probably not worth it.

How did that contribute to the topic?

I dont know to much about bittorrent or anything, but maybe you have a little but of spyware or adware that is slowing you down?

Bitorent is sucking up all the upload bandwidth.
Download Winbar or something to find out your true maximum upload, then cap you bitorent upload to 30%.

Hope this helps.
