Caonoscan D646U

I have a Canoscan D646U and encountered some problems. I did a reinstallation to my computer and hooked up my scanner but nothing happens. I go into the control panel and look under scanner/cameras and it is listed in there. However, when I go to install the software, it comes up as a black screen but says the software is being installed but it isn't. I never encountered this problem before and wondered if anyone knows what is causing it?
