I am getting an atholon 64 3200+ venice tomorrow and was wondering whether athlon 64s come with a thermal pad or themal paste? I ordered artic silver 5 with the retail processor; will I even need the artic silver? Thanks.

OEM/Bult wouldn't come with paste... Retail probably has something seeing as it does come with a cooler. But yes, you do need something, and I'd recomend using the good stuff if you have a choice.

Well I suppose you bought the BOX version meaning it comes with a HSF as well. The RETAIL meaning BOX versions have a warranty, some documentation, a HSF as well as the processor
. That heatsink has a thermal pad pre-applied. It would be better to remove it and apply Arctic Silver. However, I kept it there on my Venice 3000+ and it's very good. The temps remained at 25-27 Celsius idle.JAN
