Hi, I'm getting a new computer soon, so I'm asking about my old one, I'm seeking to upgrade it a bit to give to my fiance, she doesn't need a Cad monster like I'd need. Just one for lite photo video and audio editing and video game emulators. A few weeks back one of the stock 512Mb Ram chips died, so I went to my radio shack and got a 1Gb replacement. its a PC2-5300 667 1Gb ram chip. It works fine, but strangely now my computer's battery won't charge to full now, at first it wouldn't go past 73% now it won't go past a 48% charge on power saver mode. I'm considering downing the ram to PC2-4200 533 1Gb chips, but that may be too slow for the machine. The battery as far as I can tell when tested in another unmoded laptop is fine, I'm thinking over volt, or the battery is dying, but than why did it charge fine, the computer was bought less than 2 years ago. and has been rarely unplugged, and is kept in as clean and dry as can be. It before and more now tends to run hot, very much when gaming and I try to give it venting, but I'm starting to think the battery got cooked some how. Still why in another machine and on the Om meter dose it check out? Am I missing something, or is it the ram chip, and if so where can I find 2Gb (2x1Gb) of compatible ram for under $25USD? I'd much like help with this, I'm seriously stumped. I mean the battery dose charge just not to a full 100% on my machine. What gives?
