Default Deleting Torrent downloads from my hard drive!!!!

Hi everybody. I had a question. It kinda sounds like a dumb one but I think i may be doing something wrong. I download torrent movies from mininova.com and websites like that. After i download them, I transfer them from my laptops hard drive to an external 1TB hard drive i recently purchased. I then delete them from my laptops hard drive because they take up alot of space. What is the correct way to delete them. All I do is find them in My Computer, right-click them, and hit delete. Then I go into the recycle bin and empty it. Is this the proper way to do it. I dont think I am getting back all the space that the file once took up. Please let me know.
Thanks
Chris

I didn't quite get what you really mean but that's basically it if you want to delete things and restore the memory space.
