Default Sub $550 laptop for child

My 9 year old has collected his birthday funds and all he wants is a laptop. Can anyone make a recommendation for a good reliable laptop. Will be used for surfing the net and ocassional DVD watching primarily. Of course he would like a cool color, but I could talk him out of it if it meant getting a better computer.

Looked at a few of these at Bestbuy today and just looking for more opinons or recommendations.

I suggest you go for the acer with T3400, but it sold out online

However, if he/she want a good looking laptop, it may worth to go to dell.com and he/she could choose the colour.

Thanks, it's a little more money, but I may get him the inspiron listed on the dell homepage for $479. It's a T4200, so better deal. That way he can get at least blue or red also. Now, should I up the config to Home Premium over basic?

Personally prefer Premium 64bit, check if they have that option.
Also, don't forget google to find if there is any coupon for dell discount

I'd do the upgrade to home premium.

I bought my GF a acer for newegg.com for $399, and it's been a great laptop. Too bad they don't offer it anymore because it was model from 2008.

Yeah, that looked like a good deal. Too bad I can't find it anywhere. He's getting impatient, if you can imagine a 10 year old doing that!
Daisy, I haven't found any other coupons yet, though I don't know if they would accept another one or not anyway. Any links on where else to look?
