Default HD wont show up.

I have an 80gb HD that i used for all my pictures and music and i think it died on me
One day i booted my pc up and it wouldnt boot so i took the HD out and it booted fine!! I show some numbers in bios on SATA 1.
I'm not sure what is wrong. The HD is about 3 years old.

I was told to get a SATA USB connector and see if that works?

Any thoughts or idea's?

I have pics from all the way back to 04 on there
