Default issues w/ new monitor/tv

I just recently bought an lcd tv/computer monitor and am having issues w/ the picture color when using it for the computer. I'm using a component cable since the monitor came w/ it, but some of the colors are off.For example, instead of a green start button, it's more gold with slightly green tinting. But the task bar is still blue, just a little lighter. those are the only two generic examples I can think of, but you get the point. I asked someone if buying a better quality component cable would help, and they didn't think so. Do you think buying a dvi cable and adapting it to hdmi (or vice versa) would correct this problem?
