Arrow Java Runtime error box on XP?

On a fresh re install, with XP SP2 installed sometimes, not always, on a restart or shutdown, a box will come up and say; (It only sits there a few seconds, hence the wording may not be exact) 'runtime did not terminate as requested....' and then it allows the restart or shutdown to occur. I am not sure if any damage to my system is being created by this error or not?

I have had SP2 on this PC before, although for only a short time, before I received other errors.. which may or may not have been related to installing SP2... I did not see this box when I had SP2 installed during that time period. I wonder why I see it now?

I thought that Java was included in SP2? OR does Sun still have control over Java?

I typically (non SP2 installation) install a Sun Microsystems's Java application and this time, after seeing the Java error box, I installed it (Runtime/Java Update 2 to Ver 5.0, the latest version I could find) and received the very same error box on a restart or shutdown.

I know I'm missing something here.. Should I install Java at all? OR install Java, and what version would I install?

This is very frustrating... to say the least.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks houssam ballout for your response.

No, I am not in or on a network.

I am sorry that I have not been back to this site in a timely manner.

I have had some noise coming from my hard drive and an auto shutdown thereafter, and that has required my attention.... another post, maybe...

Anyway.. I did go to the sun microsystem's site and downloaded both the online file and the offline files.. I am not really sure what that means... re online vs offline.. and I am not sure which one to install?

Also I am not sure what 'runtime' has to do with anything.. but occasionally I will get that error box upon a shutdown..

I did notice, the last time I saw the box that it had mentioned Symantec, and I do have Symantec AV and F Wall programs installed, if that means anything.

Default Where is the error message coming from?

Is windows giving you the error or is it coming from the Java Client, please write down the exact error message as this will help figure out the problem.

simply, the java webstart that we could get from the Sun enables us to run the applet that are on the sites, and which run mainly under the Sand Box.
For Leo, I hope that ur problem was solved, try to install the offline files, and then as nexgentec.com said, post the exact problem that u r facing, so that we could help u

Thanks guys for your posts.

This one has been quite confusing for me.

The box does not stay there long enough for me to write down all the text that is shown. Like I mentioned in a prior post I did see the word Symantec in the box, then it went right by me.

It does have an 'OK' button on the box, but it automatically goes past it for the shutdown or restart process.

I have not seen it for about two days or so, hence I may have to just live with the this little beauty.
