Default Ext. HD and I/O error

Everything was great earlier... I go to get something from my Ext HD and I get an I/O error. I go to check out the disk manager and it says that that disk is empty and needs to be formatted.....

The strange thing is that my Belknin USB Hub stopped working to( get power light but no USB lights)

Anyone know what to do?

I tried sorting out the I/O addresses in the device manager... too much for me right now... so distraught over a future tradgedy involving my fist and a certain computer....

Thanks guys
