I'm attempting to build an "music PC" to feed into my whole house audio system and have hit a roadblock trying to install Vista Home Basic (32 bit). I thought I'd give the forum a try before I admit defeat and take it to a pro.
The relevant system components are a ASUS M3N72 AMD2+ Mobo, Sony Optiarc SATA DVD-ROM, Western Digital Caviar SE 160 GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Harddrive. (if more details would help, please let me know) 1.) When I first booted up the PC, the HD was hooked up to SATA1, DVD hooked up to SATA2. SATA mode set to IDE, the MoBo did not detect the hardrive in both the BIOS as well as during an attempt to install Vista which progressed until the S/W detected that there wasn't a HD. 2.) Then I switched the SATA mode AHCI with the HD still not showing up. 3.) Now I switched the SATA connections on the MoBo to see if the connectors on the MoBo were the issue. With the HD hooked up to SATA2, the DVD hooked up to SATA1, both drives are detected by the Mobo. Except now I'm unable to install Vista. In SATA mode IDE, I get the following error almost right after the optical drive starts to read the Vista disk. ----0Xc00000e9 Unexpected I/O error. something about a problem communicating with a device on the pc In SATA mode AHCI, I get the following error immediately on boot. ----DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK PRESS ENTER. Doing this does nothing. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your help. - Did I mess up by switching the SATA connections? (pc was powered down), Did I mess up switching between IDE and AHCI SATA modes? |

Can't thank you enough...as simple as switching the SATA connections seemed, it did the trick. I assumed all was well since the BIOS was seeing the drive, but something must have been amiss.
Vista installed with no problems. Really appreciate you taking time to help out! |
