I just built a budget system for my buddy($685 total)... we got a good deal on a used 19" envision LCD for $150

got a Chaintech NF3 board($59) with a 2800+ athlon 64 cpu($105 shipped from enet.com with hs/fan), 1GB(2x512) corsair value select($80), ati 9600SE($54), 120GB Samsung harddrive($70), pci 802.11g card($30 from JustDeals.com), wireless keyboard/mouse($20 from JustDeals.com), NEC dvd burner($49) and and a real cheap case/PS($33) and it isn't anything spectacular but for the price it does the trick for him.. he mainly just listens to music and watches porn anyway.. not really a gamer so no need for a good video card or the top of the line ram or anything.. That there is final cost for tower, kb/mouse/LCD monitor.. if you reuse any parts u have more you can save even more, or just take that saved $ and put it towards a better Vid. card or 939 a64 instead of the 754 one... All items I didn't mention where I got them from.. I got them all from newegg.com and shipping was around $33 or so... it came to 535 shipped for all the new parts minus the used LCD... -30 for the wireless card which you probably don't need, and another $20 if you re-use kb/mouse, it'll only run you another $50 or so and you can get a 6600GT and make it a "decent" gamer

ati x600 --or -- nvidia 6600gt (256mb would be nice for either one)
those are two totally different classes of videocards: the former is a business type card and the latter, a gaming card

Thats only true for singlethreaded games

i have 2 dvd burners and i burn two things at the same time all time and i never burned one that skiped, but somtimes like 1 out of 20
Yes but you prolly get a load of P0/P1 errors (for DVDs) and/or C1/C2 errors (for CDs) ...

and a real cheap case/PS($33)
Make sure its a cheap case and not a cheap PSU
