Angry Change of power supply

Hi,
A couple of weeks ago my PC died whilst switched on, up till then it had been very stable. On examination the obvious problem seemed to be the power supply. I changed this and fired it up, she ran like a beauty for about 12 mins then locked up, something i've only had on very rare occasions. I ended up having to press the re-start button, she then fired back up but only lasted about 6 mins. Its almost as though when it gets too warm it becomes unstable. the warmer it gets the less time i have. can anyone help coz I.m baffled and frustrated now. could the old power supply when blowing have damaged my motherboard? or processor or both???

my system : gigabyte motherboard, amd 2800+, 1.5gz ram, msi 128mb gforce 5200.

From this statement it sounds like you might be overheating. If the computer gets to hot it will lock up or restart on it own.

When you first turn on the computer go to the bios and see if it tell you what temperture your cpu is running at. Post what temperture it is here.

Also you can download speedfan http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php and if you can keep your computer running long enough use it to monitor temps. Tell us how high it gets when the computer freezes or lock up. on my computer temp 2 is cpu temp. I not sure if this is always true thoe.

Default temperatures

the cpu is running at about 70 to 72 deg c, and case about 28 to 32 deg c, this doesnt seem too hot to me, but then what do i know, i'm the one asking questions. the puzzler for me is that i tried last night to fire up and its still the same, however it runs fine in safe mode??????
but where do i go from here, the only thing that i changed was the power supply. every thing else stayed the same.

thanx for your suggestions

yep , over heating
70 c is like 158 F , dont kno 4 sure, my system stays around 32c( and thats like 94 F )no load and 38-44c load
check to see if the cpu fan is still runing and the heat sink is on there good , u might have to take it off and repaste it on with the thermal stuff....

edit: ooo, it runs in safe mode? hmmm, well 70c is still to hot, im 99.9%sure its overheating

Most AMD K7 boards will kill the system at 75C so that easilty explains your problem. You'll want to keep the temps below 50C

Whats the cooling you've got on the CPU?
