being a new install of XP i'd guess its not a virus unless you kept your files and it was in one..... anyhow...

were you able to browse web pages with your other network connection prior to installing the USB Wireless?
What is the signal strength of the wireless connection?
Try turning off the windows Firewall, and turning off your antivirus spam/adware/security_risks block options, then under the Tools menu in IE goto Internet_Options\Connections\LAN_Settings and untick all boxes.
Then try connecting to Google.com or Microsoft.com
If that works then just step backwards till you find exact cause.
