Default If i was to overclock.

Hi,

My system is reasonable new and was considering over clocking it and was just wondering if anyone knows what limits i would be able to get it to.

My system is:

Intel Pentium 4 3.2 HT LGA775 SOCKET
Kingston 1024 MB 2x sticks 3200 400mhz
Geforce 6600 256 PCI-E

their is obviosuly more but the above things would be the ones which would be of interest.

Also to do this hoo would be the best way to do it (as in witha prgramme?or BIOS, also have a gigabyte motherboard which comes with a tool for overclocking) and is water cooling the best collant?

Thanks

Tom

err, yes i have read all of it and much much more on the subject. And if you intend to oc then your going to need to know all these things at a minimum. Ocing is not like pressing a button and if you dont know what you doing you will damage your cpu, ram, or both.

You asked how to oc your p4, well it cant be written any smaller than in cpu101
I recommend you read up, you'll be glad that you did

all of the 101 documents are really helpful especially the PSU101, that boosted my knowledge somewhat.

no one will know, it is imposible to to tell (covered on cpu 101), if i were to take a guess id say agressively you could get it up to 4 ghz. But then it all depends on your silicon

Your motherboard is key, choice of mobo has a huge effect (covered in cpu101)

BIOS is where its most frequently done (thats covered in cpu101)

best compared to air, yes

Is it possible to overclock "on-the-fly", as in overclock as windows is running to see what happens

of course it is, and this can be quite useful as you may not need to reset bios as often. However bios ocs tends to be more stable and have more fine tuning options, you can also be more aggressive.

Also you may find a oc that you think is stable for windows. Only to find out on your next power on that it is not stable enough fot boot. Resulting in a need to go into bios anyway.
