Do you have a 32-bit or a 64-bit operating system?

32 Bit OS will see 3GB, it will not see the full 4gb. How ever, If you have a 64 bit OS, Then it should see all the ram, Unless you have on board video. Then that can take memory away from windows.

Windows 32 bit can see upto 4gbs. not 3. Physical Memory Addresses are divided up between your System memory (Ram)/ and you PCI memory addresses/ Bios/ Video cards/ networking/ Blah Blah Blah.
So the full amount of 4gbs. thats installed will not be available because part of the upper 2gbs. addresses have been used.

Hi, thanks for all the help. Yep, I've still got a 32 bit OS (XP Proffesional)
I also do have onboard video. It's a Asrock A780GXE with 128Mb sideport memory. Just got confused about this since I installed 4 Gig on a few computers at work with Windows XP 32 bit, and all of it showed up when I ran dxdiag.. Thanks again |
