Default Computer suddenly becomes slow and jumpy

Ok guys, i got back this weekend and got on my laptop, it took forever to boot up! And when it did it is really slow opening up programs and closing them, also when i move the mouse it will go smooth then it will jump to the direction it was suppose to go, ive ran my computer for viruses, deleted recent programs ive downloaded, and freed up quite a bit of space on my computer, also i have a dell inspiron 1501...i dont know whats going on so can some1 help me?

so it was fine then you went on holiday and got back and it stated playing up?

was it used while you where away?

Yes it was fine before we left, i set it on table before we left and it went into sleep mode, and no no one used it while we were gone (everyone was gone house was locked up) so idk what happend to it.... =l Also while we were gone i was writing a 680mb file onto a CD rw...idk if that has anything to do with it?

Have you restarted it and what temps are you getting?

its just a general idea , if would be u then what would i have done,
get hold of any of the good registry defragmenters and disk clean up utilites .... run them and see what u find out, get hold of tune up utilities 2009 and install it
(it gives 15 day trial)
and click one click maintainance... after that open the tune up utilities application and and select the tabs u feel revalent....
surely it will help u out....
