Final Decision for Build... PLZ CHECK

Alright, here is my final decisions, just wanted to make sure that everything is compatible, and that everything will work for my needs. I play games almost never, so i don't need a good video card. I watch tons of movies,play tons of music, and surf the internet ALL the time. Let me know if this is a good setup ASAP as i want to order.

I don't know about that processor. For simply watching videos, playing music, and surfing the web you might want to save money and go with a much cheaper Athlon XP/Sempron or Pentium 4 setup. A processor that fast would be justifiable if you were a heavy gamer, but really...overkill and a half there...

I concur entirely: machine is quite overkill for those tasks, you could probably scale back $600 easy if you got a machine more tailored to the needs

ok Praetor, i trust you, so what would u recommend instead? i use the computer ALL the time, and while i do not use it very often to play games, i am constantly on it, constantly doing tons of things at once, etc. what would u suggest instead?

i think that your harddrive wont be compatible with your mobo becasue your mobo's interface is SATA and your harddrive is IDE. i dont know if it mattters or not you might just wanna look into it before buying

You can use the hard drive (and all the other drives), just plug it into the PATA ports on the motherboard, not the smaller SATA ports.

Id argue the 9700 (assuming its a 9700Pro since plain jane 9700s are a pain to find) is a superior card

In any case, a quick rundown of some specs:
Pentium 4 540J @ 210USD
PQI Turbo 2x512MB @70USD after rebate
Maxtor 200GB 8MB SATA @ 105USD
NEC 3520A @ 45USD
XClio 450W 12V@15+17 @ 50USD
Floppy, case and monitor you originally had (because im not concerned about these) @ 380USD

ASUS P5GPL @100USD
Sapphire X300SE 32MB->128MB PCIe @ 50USD

or

ASUS P5GD1-VM @ 105USD

Totals = 960USD for the onboard video route or 1165USD for discrete video route

I think it may be time to upgrade... The upgrade! My machine will soon be a 939 X2 4000+, 4x512 DDR400, and an 8600GTS.
