Question no IDE on my asus :( what to do????

my new build is nearly complete and i was about to hook up my older CD / DVD burner to the new rig and just noticed that the mobo (asus p6t deluxe WS pro) does NOT have a IDE connector :@ so how can i hook up my cd/dvd burner? am i screwed??
could i take the cd-burner out of my laptop and use that?
do cd-burners now use USB or SATA?
options please?????

is it possible to install an OS with a USB stick???? thats all i really want to do to be honest as i NEVER use the CD / DVD burner.

ps, originally i had ordered the asus p6t deluxe v2 board but the shipper was out of stock and replaced it with the WS pro. i thought it was all good until just NOW when i realized no IDE SUPPORT :@

Just pick up a SATA burner. Im sure that you have some extra sata ports on your mobo.

You can get a PCI to IDE add on card, or, a new SATA DVD burner.

sorry, not really going to happen. you need the dvd drive. its the same as asking if you can install windows with no motherboard, really. sure there might be a few workarounds, but its not gonna happen.

Don't feel bad about buying a new optical drive. IDE is going away this year so they won't be supported any longer. We're seeing a lot of new mainboards now without IDE controllers at all. Optical drives have a life span of a few years depending on how much they are used so they don't last forever. Getting a new one is the right thing to do.

I just ran into the same thing with my new build. My mobo has only one IDE, but I had two HDDs and two optical drives that used IDE. So, I ended up scrapping the optical drives for a Super-Multi drive SATA. I'm going to be scrapping the IDE HDDs next and getting a SATA HDD.

Upgrades/builds can be costly.

I've tried the USB Install method from XP many, many times, and I've only succeeded once.

However, I've used this tutorial from Vista and it works every time:
http://blogs.technet.com/jeffa36/arc...-installs.aspx

I know this doesn't solve the problem, but it would if you can find someone
with Vista. It only takes about 20 minutes to create the bootable USB stick.
