Default hard drive

hey guys got a question not sure if the hard drive is basically done but i have been having a problem with my computer sometimes it woukld boot up somtimes it would be like somthing is wrong with the reg or its corrupted insert CD to repair done that but still does it..sooo i deleted the partition and tried installing XP, Vista, Linux and it doesnt install it all the way it will get so far then sometimes come up with the same msg or just be a blck screen or somthing. So is it the hard drive or what. Wasnt sure if i buy a new hard drive or whats goin on here thanks guys
