Default RAM Recognition with Photoshop Issue

I have 8GB of ram and running XP x64. Photoshop only recognizes 3.2gb of it. I've been doing some research and there has been a lot of mentioning of boot.ini. I am no computer wizard and too afraid to dabble into cmd prompt. How do I get Photoshop to recognize 8gb of ram?
Any suggestions will help
thank you!
