Increase my range

I have a condo on an island in Panama. I don't have internet but the neighbors down the street do(unsecured). Sometimes on the balcony I can get a fleeting signal. What gadget do I need so I can use a connection on my laptop that's say, a block away?

Yes don't be so cheap just get some internet pay for it it's not so hard.

I'm only there one month out of the year. As far as I know I can't sign up for one month of internet service. There's free wi-fi down the street but I was hoping to sit in the comfort of my own place.
