Default Problems with my sound codecs affecting video playback

The other day I turned on my computer and all sound and video (including icon animation) had accelerated. I remember having had a similar problem years ago and it was to do with the sound card so I decided to update my drivers.

This solved the problem of accelerated, high pitch, crackling sound, and also slowed the video palyback to the right level, however the video playback refresh rate is a little jumpy.

I have an onboard realtek high definition audio card, and my graphics card is a Nvdia GeForce 8800.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of the jerky video?

What media players are you using to play files? What format are the files? Updated your video drivers?

I have updated the video drivers too, I noticed a tiny improvement, but it's so small I may have been imagining it.

I have only tested it in media player and iPlayer.
