Learn to type the way they tell you then find what works best for you. I find that not keeping my hands the way they want them helps me type faster. I use my left thumb for the space all the time but thats just how I do it. Just remember its what works best for you, you don't have to type in perfect form.

haha i took that class a year ago and like half way through it i was like "screw this, I have been typing my own way for like 2 years and this is making no sense." So i just typed my own way and got an A+
