Question Loss of US brands

With the loss of manufacturers, or with them ending up in foreign hands, is there a risk to national security? Atari is now owned by the French (Infogrammes) and Chrysler by the Italians (Fiat), how much more before it starts to be a problem. At this rate the last American owned company will be Starbucks, lol.

Jeep

Pontiac

I think you should look at the ratio of American companies owning foriegn companies a bit... Its still very much in your favour lol.

Unlike us poor wee New Zealanders lol.

(NZ is awesome by the way)

Our debt to China is our largest security risk. If they decide to stop buying US Treasury debt, our Federal government will not be able to function or fund general services, unless other nations are willing to buy us out. Manufacturing in the US is all but dead. Yeah, there's still jobs here, but more and more industry is moving overseas due to low cost labor, tax incentives, lack of worker rights (such as health care and livable minimum wage), etc...

Chrysler has been German owned for the the most of the last decade, I'd only really worry about the national debt.

If that occured then what is happening in California would happen across the country, the mass handout of IOUs for tax deductions, benefits etc. But don't worry, Obama has it under control, he has already made GM more fuel efficient than Audi, lol.

Bit of a thread resuscitation there but anyway

When you can get 100mpg (Imperial, not US) we'll be impressed! We've done it, although the car was a bit ped-paced...

Yeah, it was Volkswagen (German) who created the 100mpg Lupo, it's a brilliant little car!

You have every right to be concerned.
In Australia we have issues with Chinese companies trying to buy Australian mining companies. One of the Australian companies that they were unable to buy, one of the directors is now being held in China being charged with spying.
I think they should bring back import tariffs.
