PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help! I urgently need that DATA! (theres about 320 GB of it btw)

I had this happen before. And I hate to see that message. 50/50, you have to reformat but don't unless you know you have to. Are you sure your not running anything that is accessing the drive, like do you have anything that scans the drive for something, sectors etc?

I hope that windows 7 is in a different partition than vista, no 2 OS can run on the same drive partition.

you can't install 2 on one partition anyway

When it says access is denied it is almost always because it is already open and you are trying to change something that is already open, so...

check the bottom right where your icons and time are and check that there are no utilities for the drive that have been installed open.

Next, right click bar at the bottom, click task manager and check no utilities for it are open under the processes tab, then try again.

If there is nothing open and still has the message, check that you are on an admin account

if still no luck, try on another machine and see if it works.

Try to make another partition with xp on as you said and se if you can open it with the other OS.

Check if the device is in your device manager. If it is and has the yellow ! then uninstall and reinstall the device drivers.

If still no luck then you are probably out of luck, but atleast one of the above should get it working fine
