If malwarebytes won't run, chances are high that combofix won't run either. I've had great success by slaving the drive in a different system and scanning that way and then put it back in original system and finish scanning.

When you add it to another system, at least do a virus scan on it using the free version of AVG. I also believe you can run Malwarebytes full scan and select the drive to scan. But AVG should catch the offending file stopping programs from running with the drive in the original system.

Yes, put your drive into a different system but make sure the bios is set to boot to the original drive and not yours. Sometimes when you add drives it changes the boot order.

ok say after several days of slow progress trial and error and after backing up the files on the other hardrive ( i havn't had much time) i realised as i went to ghost mine that i have a Sata and the only computer i have availiable to me has an IDE harddrive and hence IDE connections so mine is not compatible with the conections currently in the other computer. now i am not very familiar with this so the solution may be easy but how do i get my hardrive in?

could i take the cable from my computer and use it in the other? if so where would i put it?

as i said im not too familiar with this kind of thing so bare with me and please try to understand if i dont. thanks for you help so far and i would appriciate any more assistance.

cheers

Would it work if i took the IdE hard drive out of my other computer and in to the one with the virus as my new computer has the old connections? and then just on start up change the bios to make the IDE the master drive?

let me know

If you put a drive into a different system and make it the primary bootable and you tempt to boot to it all the hardware is different and it will screw up the installation and you'll have a bigger mess then when you started.
