Default Which is Better? - Thanks

All things else being equal, which would be a better system for gaming:
System #1: i7-975, GTX275, 12GB DDR3
System #2: i7-950, GTX295, 6GB DDR3

Just trying to find out if that GTX295 nVidia would make up for the obvious better specs of sys #1...
Thanks a lot.

Why would you spend the money on a 950/975, to be honest a 920 with a GTX295 and 6gb of memory would play pretty much any game, especially after overclocking.

You don't need a i7-950/975 a 920 with a GTX 295 with 6GB RAM will play anything you won't don't spend that much on a CPU you don't need.

Well, the actual price on System #1: i7-975, GTX275, 12GB DDR3 is ~$300 cheaper than System #2: i7-950, GTX295, 6GB DDR3. I know - hard to believe. I know I don't really need all this power right now, but I'm just trying to buy a PC that I don't have to upgrade in a few years. I'm sick of that hassle. The real problem is this: I've read so many horror stories about buying on line and returning defective merchandise that I just don't want to hassle with that. I was looking first at actually customizing at Velocity Micro's (VM) site and then I found that the Fry's in the my area is going to have system #1 available soon for quite a bit less money than the custom made VM (Sys#2). *Both* PCs are VM. If I buy from Fry's I can just take it in for any needed repairs. My experience with their tech dept. in the past has been positive. I'd get my machine back in a few days. If I buy direct from VM's site, and if something goes wrong... well, I don't really want to put myself through that. Their 'on site' (someone comes to my house) repair option is at *their own discretion*, and I've heard they usually *don't* send anyone. I'm just at the point in my life (I'm definitely what you'd call an 'older gamer') that I want as few problems as necessary. And money is not quite as much a concern as when I was younger. Oh, it's a concern alright - just not what it used to be... .
Thanks to all for your responses.

The cpu's are all the same, just the clockspeed more or less. You can overclock the i7 920 to sleeps the same as the 975. You want to have the best gpu possible though, as any of the i7 cpu's are not going to bottleneck a current gpu.

Thanks, problem is, I cannot find a retail store that offers a GTX295 in any of their PCs. Is the GTX 275 that much slower than the GTX295?

950? that is complete overkill, you do realise that the i7 920 is far more than anyone would need

it would take a massive gpu for the a i7 920 to become a bottle neck

amd dont do a xeon chip intel do and its a server cpu (expensive)

stick with a i7-920, 295gtx and 6gig ddr3-that is plenty power seriously

Like boomer said it would be better to build you own system it really easy to do. No the GTX 275 is no where near the GTX 295. 2 GTX 275=1 GTX 295 so you could get 2 GTX 275s or 2 ATI Radeon 4890s. The 950 does not have that much more power then the 920and is not worth the extra $300. Have you thought about using AMD at all.
