Default PowerEdge 2950

Anyone here worked with the Dell Poweredge 2950 servers? We have two new ones up at my job and I'm having an issue with them. The issue I'm having is that the share drives on both of these servers will dissappear off of the computers they are mapped two. I can still ping both servers when this happens but cant get to the drives.

Are you mapping to the drives using DNS, Netbios, or straight to the server's IP address?

Have used both DNS and direct to IP and still lose them sporadically

Hmm, that's quite strange. By disappear you mean the map drive is totally gone rather than just disconnecting I assume. There is some sort of keep alive timer on the server that will disconnect idle mapped drives to conserve resources or something like that.

Yeah totally gone reboot the server and they come back. There was a feature on the broadcom cards called Ethernet@WireSpeed. I turned this feature off and its been up for four days now. Wish me luck.

Hmm, well that's goo that you got your issue resolved. What exactly is that feature supposed to do? It sounds like it was messing stuff up somehow, perhaps to speed up the connection on the server it was dropping data streams it felt were unnecessary use of bandwidth thus disconnecting ur drives.

That feature was suppose to make the card run at the highest possible speed that it could on the line. If the line could do 1gbs then the card was trying to push that amount out all the time. I think this was causing flow problems with the rest of the network.
