I just built a new machine, and I checked the speed of the CPU from the computer=> properties and It tells me its 1.60ghz when Its supposed to be 3.2ghz.

this is the cpu AMD|PH II X4 955 3.2G AM3 R
and this is the Mobo MB GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 R

AMD Cool n quiet. It will down clock the CPU when not under load. You can disable it from the bios.

Hey, i heard this happened on other peoples computers too, with the 955, from what i have read up you need to flash your bios, for the cpu speed to be corrected.

You might need to go to your Power Options in the Control Panel and change it to Always On. Then go to the Add and Remove and uninstall the Cool n Quiet driver.

Is it better to disable this cool and quiet when playing games I didnt know if it could effect performance having to keep switching speeds and can it cause any damage to the processor because the clock speed would be changing all the time... Just a general interest thing no reason I need to know..

No problem man

and, elliotc, for me i dont notice a difference, but i always keep mine disabled becuase even wen im just browsing through folders i want the best speed possible. It won't hurt it if its enabled.
