Default problems and questions about changing hdd

yea so atm I have a seagate 7200.10 500gb drive and im gnna change but theres some stuff you need to know first.
yesterday I changed over into my antec 1200 case. I changed the cases at one of my family's house cus the case was delivered there. When I tested it there it booted up fine and then when I came home and booted it said it couldnt load the boot drive. I checked and the sata cable was loose. I plugged it back in and booted. When I did this my main monitor went white after the first couple bios screens and then on my second monitor it said that my windows key is not genuine. I have a genuine key and I've used this computer for nearly 2 years (but hav upgraded parts and restored before).
So I entered in the same key and activated with an automated phone system. This time when I booted, it had set my second monitor as the primary monitor. So I switched it back then a few seconds later I get a Blue screen of death saying registry error. Then it restarted. After this I tried to change primary monitor again and it BSOD after 10 secs. So when it started again this time I changed the primary monitor and then shutdown before it could BSOD. Then when I started up again I got a BSOD after 10 secs of just desktop. I started it in safe mode without a BSOD and decided to recover to yesterday's recovery point. After doing this it started up again and after the windows vista loading bar my screen goes blank and my monitor light flashes back and forth from green to orange rapidly like its getting signal and losing it again and again. I tried starting up again with my other monitor plugged in instead. My computer boots up and then it says again that I dont have a genuine windows vista home premium key.

Now here's my question.
Luckily I was just about to change to a Western digital caviar black 1 tb that I already bought. If I take out my current drive and put in the caviar black and do a clean install, can I temporarily plug in my current seagate drive as a second drive temporarily to copy all my data onto my caviar black?

and this will stop all problems right?

If you reload Windows with the new 1TB there's no reason why you should have a problem with having the old drive hooked up as a secondary, I'd say load Windows onto the 1TB, move all your data over, then load Windows on the older drive and keep the 1TB for data (Great if Windows ever does that again, no data loss)

But you'd need to set the 1TB to be the secondary boot device (Optical being primary) then later when you load Windows on the older drive set the older drive to be secondary, then keeping Windows on the 1TB's purely optional (But would be useful in case the old drive dies or Windows no longer functions)
