HELP! My Laptop Fried.

My laptop just died.

Its an alienware m9700, notoriously well known for heating issues when pushed to the limit, although you couldn't technically 'overclock' when you use it as much as I did something was bound to fry -and it did

I'm 90% sure its one of my GPU's, or even both that have fried.

I press a button and the computer boots up perfectly, I know the noise my computer makes when it turns on, and everthings ok, I turn the sound up, highlight my desktop and press enter, and after loading of an amazing number of icons, eventually the music of a song on my desktop starts playing - but no screen image. I tried connecting the laptop to a tv and it didn't work, which tells me its almost definitely a GPU's fried, or both! Neither GPU fanst start up either =[

I was told it could be a RAM malfunction though, could it be?

Any tips on how to fix it? The GPU's are Nvidia 7900 GS Go Cards, but with only 1 heat sink between them.

Any ideas?

I don't think it would be the RAM if it was then the computer wouldn't even go to the desktop plus there would be a blue screen or a screen of some sort you have no picture at all. Sound like it's you GPUs for sure you might be able to get it fixed as long as the GPUs are removable.

Well, anythings removable =P User friendly, hell no!

I found a supplier of the GPU I need, but they only supply one model of it, I need the second model to work with it, it was a custom design for alienware which I'm assuming means I'll have to find someone with another broken M9700, or a chop shop with the bits I need, but by no means is it going to be easy to remove the parts.

Will try again tonight and just plug in one card at a time, will let you konw the results =]

Yea that's why I've never been much of a laptop person I had 3 laptops the last one just broke 2 days ago so it will be a while before I get another one. I have always liked desktops better I have like 15 of them lol 1 is my custom build another is a Mac Mini and the rest are OEM some are as old as 1998 but most are from between 2002-2008 I'm getting them ready to sell they are just sitting in my floor and I'm tired of looking at them.

Do you think its one, or both cards that have fried?

From my understanding, using an SLi bridging cable means if the first one dies, the 2nd cant operate, but I'm not 100% on that fact.

Me either but sound right to me I think it's only one card and not both but could be something else besides the GPU can never really be sure.
