Question Delayed write error...

Well I have a Western Digital 500gb external hard-drive and I think its dying.

I had the delayed write error message pop a few times and noticed I only had folders on the hdd and no actual files (mp3 etc) but the hdd was still full.

At this current moment my PC doesn't even recognise a hdd being there at all (even in device manager), Ive changed the USB cable, re-installed USB drivers but nothing is working.

I'm debating whether to open it up and connect it internal via IDE or sata, Should be a bog standard hdd right?

If anyone could shed any light it would be appreciated,

Matt

If it's not being recognized, I guess I would try it with a different computer/OS.

But yeah, it is probably SATA and you will definitely be able to hook it up either way.

500GB could be either, they made IDE up to 640GB

Go to "My Computer" right click any hard-drive and click properties, go to the "Hardware" tab, then look for the model number which should be something similar to "WD WD5000XXXX" and Google that, you should be able to determine which connector it uses without opening it
