Default 160GB Partitioning?

Hi, I have one 160gb hard disc and am thinkign about getting an additional harddisk for backup incase HDD error etc. Also would i be better buying an additional harddisc for music on so that i have 2 drives, one for backup and storaging music and movies and the other for like everything else, XP etc?

Also if i just get a HDD for backup and then partition my 160gb harddisc into 3 parttions will is improve/decrease its general performance?

Partition would be something like

10gb for linux (which havent installed at all yet on my current drive)
60gb for music and movies
and 90gb for xp, internet, college work, games etc.

What you all think or is their a better way u guys recon?

Also woud it be any better if i just installed xp on its own parttion and data anywhere else. Reason in wanting to do this partitoning is so runs easier and helps to keep it more organised.
