Default help with proformance with radeon x1700

windows vista 2 gigs of ram and radeon x1700 video card.

On games like source ,source mods and world of warcraft the game starts out good then after 20 minutes I get strange graphics glitches and my fps goes way down. Ive tried every driver reformatting. Has done this since I got the video card.

restarting seems to fix it for about 20 minutes then it happens all over again.

here is a link explaining it more and screen shots of the strange graphic glitches that happen that seem to cause my fps to drop.

Sounds like you have got a bad card. I had the x1650 pro and it was bad from the getgo as well. When booting up windows it would put different color pixels on the windows splash screen.

my radeon x1650 pro does some weird stuff...if i overclock i get a blue or black screen (not a BSOD), and when catalyst loads the display resets and puts my mouse in the centre of screen.

It sounds like the series has some problems... but to me it sounds like bad memory on the card.

The first thing that that says to me was high temperatures. Performance degrading after a period of time during load? Have you checked your temps yet? How's the airflow in your case? I'm not ruling out a bad card, just putting another possibility on the table.

Just because you can change settings in your CCC doesn't mean the drivers are fine. Install the newest ones possible anyway, this could fix a multitude of problems. Laptops can kinda get nasty for heat depending on the model. Download Speedfan which will tell you all relevant temperatures (HDD, GPU, CPU etc) Make sure you get the temps while under load, not just running your desktop (so basically when it starts to act up, Alt+Tab to a speedfan window running in the background.)
