Default F6 during windows installation...

Im having various probs installing a SATA hard drive on my comp...
and it bears down to running a fresh installation of windows and hitting F6 when it asks if theres any additional hardware i want to add...
...only problem is that nothing happens when i hit F6!

so it keeps on running, then says "hit F2" for another unrelated purpose... anyway, this works, so why doesnt F6?????

has anyone else had this problem?

you have to hit F6, and then wait. it will load some more files then it will let you load the drivers.

I've hit it and waited and it just continued to load XP as it would without pressing it
