"Non-system Disk or Disk Error" (HardDisk isn't booting!!!)

Hello guys. After I installed a second harddisk into my computer and set the jumpers; put the original one to Master and the new one to Slave, my original Harddisk won't boot anymore. After the "Intel" Screen, I get the message "Non-system disk or disk error, Replace disk then press any key ... Boot Failure". This is a big problem since I didn't have anything backed-up. How could this happen? Could it be Electro-Static Discharge (from my hand touching the harddisk components during handling)? Is there anyway I can retrieve the data on it or make it work again? Please help. -Thank you, JJ.

That could BE the problem, but before coming to that conclusion we shall try something else.
Did you take out the old hard disk and boot it up then?
I know this is a stupid question, but you did remember to plug in the power connector for you master (or maybe it got loose?)?
did you try to boot into safe mode?
Look into bios and check the status of your Master drive. See if the hard drive is there and the computer fully recognizes that it's the master drive and that it's functional.

Yes I did remove the old Harddisk and everything is plugged in, and the the computer fully recognizes it, and it appears in BIOS, and it is set to master. It doesn't even go so far as to give me the option to boot in safe mode. It won't boot at all. My question is can I still extract the data on it? I heard of something called "RAID", can I use that?

Why did you remove the old harddrive, thought that was the one the OS was on. Sounds like even though you set the jumpers right, for some reason its got the new drive set as the Boot drive. Put both drives back in, make sure the jumpers are right - go into the bios and set your old drive with the OS as the 1st. boot drive.
