Default having 2 diff hard-drives

is it ok to have a seagate 80gb 2md hard-drive and a Maxtor 200gb 8mb hard-drive together?

yeah, as long as you dont plan to raid them

raid is supposed to be like a life saver but i've heard that if one drive fails you lose all datas on both drives?

That's RAID 0. It gives a boost in performance with the ever so lingering possibility that you can lose everything if one of the drives fails. Other RAID options exist.

He can still use RAID with the two Seagates and then use the Maxtor as a backup. That is assuming he has RAID on his motherboard or a RAID card.

i know, but he only has 1 seagate hard drive, or am i reading wrong?
