Default Problem With SATA Harddrive

I bought the 74 gig WD Raptor HardDrive, and when i install it, the computer wont reconize it, i read all the instructions for both the hard drive and the motherboard, the hd pins are correct, ive scoured the bios for options, securely conected everything. when i start the windows xp install cd, is says it cant install because there is no hd, the suse live dvd doesnt see it either, there are no jumpers on the motherboard, nor any options in the bios. this is my first SATA hard drive, so am i missing something obvious??? this is pissing me off cause i spent 240 on this thing and it isnt working....

Yeah, unless I'm mistaken your Via chipset doesn't have native SATA support so you need to get SATA drivers.

pop in the winxp disk and when it is loading, it will ask you if you want to install third party raid drivers... you then press f6 or f3 or fu whatever it says. Pop the disk in and wallla!
