Default Headset sound problem (vista)

I have the Teknmotion Pulsewave headset which connects via USB (which gives you 5.1 and great sound quality) or regular headphone/microphone jacks. On my XP computer the USB worked fine, but my Vista laptop (SP1) gives distortion when connected on USB. I've tried it using the included drivers from the packaging CD, drivers on their website, and just plugging it in for the basic Vista drivers. All of them have this problem. Usually the sound is fine for a few minutes and then begins going out. Tech support never even answered my email, so I'm looking for help here. Thanks

AMD ZM-82 @ 2.2 ghz
ATI Radeon 3850 w/512mb
4 GB RAM

Yeah, it has the horsepower. The soundcard doesn't have any problems as far as I know. I've tried updating its drivers, but that did not help either.

if the only difference is the operating system.id be willing to say compatibility problem.despite what they claim about the driver being for vista.if it doesnt work it doesnt work.vista handles its devices way different than xp.for giggles try disabling the onboard sound then try the headphones.
