Default New Acer laptop is running slow

I recently purchased a new Acer laptop: AS5535-5050 ATH X2 QL-64 2.1G 2GB 250GB DVDRW 15.6-WXGA WL WVHP with a 2 gig RAM update to 4 gig total RAM. I have been very concerned about getting virsus so I installed Norton 360 immediately. As the weeks have gone by, the unit keeps getting slower and slower I have added other anti spyware, adware, cookies cleaner and registery cleaners to keep everything working. Now it takes almost 25 minutes before I can do anything waiting to boot up. I guess I'm pretty stupid when it comes to setting up this thing apparently. What am I doing wrong? Also, The unit came with a trial of Carbonite back-up software which I decided that I did not need to spend the $150.00 for the upgrade since Norton comes with back-ups. The problem with this is that I cannot completely delete this from the hard drive.....Help!!! Thanks,
