Question Inspiron 700m

I have a quick question. I have a Dell Inspiron 700m that was purchased 4 years ago as my first laptop. The problem that I am having is the screen is going black on me all the time. At first, it was once in awhile and I would have to reboot entire machine. Now its happening all the darn time. I usually just close the laptop and open it and I can see the screen again for a few minutes if I'm lucky and then it goes black again. I'm not sure if its my laptop that is dying on me or something else internally. If someone could help, if its an "easy" fix (hoping!) could someone explain how to fix the problem step-by-step for me. Any help is appreciated. I cant afford a new one right now, but will have to figure something out to get another one soon because I cant be without the internet. Please help!

Here is a quick little thing to check out. If you can get to an external monitor, have that plugged in as well. This way, if they both go out when the Laptop LCD does, you know it's not the laptop screen.

But anyway, has anything changed recently before this started happening (ie a new video card driver, have you dropped it, etc.)?

So I am not having any luck with my laptop. My desktop I have is plugged in, but the hard drive is gone. How do I hook this laptop up to my desktop? Thanks!

if you have like a 15 pin VGA then you connect the monitor to the vga port and fire it up
