Default Sudden Used Hard Drive Space Jump

My soon to be replaced computer has a 20 gig hard drive. A month ago I was showing about 12 gigs used pretty steadily. Now it's suddenly at 17 with 2 gigs usable left to go. I didn't add anything of huge size in the past month. I see no visible humungous files I hadn't seen before.

So I moved a lot of stuff onto external drives and erased them from my C drive, including a lot of graphics. Nothing changed.

Any ideas as to what might have happened?

did you empty the recycling bin after deleting some bigger files? if you just delete a file to the recycling bin, your computer still recognizes it as a file, which takes up space. empty the recycling bin. also, may i recommend you download and use ccleaner regularly?
