Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if it is safe to plug in your PSU to the wall, and nothing else, just to test it to see if it works? Will that damage the PSU at all, or should it be fine to do? Thanks a lot, Derek

If you plug it into the wall, and flip the switch, your psu wont start up, so yeah, its safe. In order for your psu to be started it needs to be connected to something, like your mother board, or a psu tester (which would be the best way to test them). You can get a tester at a fairly inexpensive price, $10 or so.
you can also jump your psu, by switching around the wires, check a guide for that.

Alright...Because last time, I put everything together, flipped the switch, and bang, the PSU blew up. I just want to avoid that happening again (And yes, everything was plugged in correctly, no metal touching the mobo).
Thanks, Derek

Well, yeah, if the psu is connected to your motherboard, it should power up, but if it blows up, uhhh, yeah, thats probably not a good sign. Like I said though, your psu wont be able to power up by itself if it is ONLY connected to the wall.
